Chido in Mayotte. Bulletin of February 13, 2025.

Key Points

  • At the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM), emergency room visits were down during week 2025-S06 (February 3–9), marking the third consecutive week of decline. Wounds and trauma have been the primary reason for emergency room visits since 2024-S52 and saw a slight increase in 2025-S06, following several weeks of decline.

  • The ESCRIM Hospital and the clinic closed their doors on the evening of February 3. Since February 4, patients have been treated by the SSFMT (Secouristes sans frontières medical team), a new healthcare center that does not have inpatient beds or an operating room. Traumas and skin conditions were the main reasons for consultation in 2025-S06.

  • In referral medical centers, the decline in the proportion of visits for trauma continued, while an increase in the proportion of visits for skin infections was observed last week. Digestive symptoms remained the leading reason for seeking care.

  • Influenza and bronchiolitis outbreaks were still ongoing nationwide in 2025-S06.

  • The rate of stool samples testing positive for at least one enteric pathogen has been high since late December 2024 and stood at 81% in 2025-S06.

  • Despite a downward trend, the percentage of sales of anti-diarrheal medications and oral rehydration solutions (ORS) remained at a very high level (approximately 6%) in sentinel pharmacies.

  • More than half of the households surveyed during community-based surveillance (CBS) outreach visits reported having more difficulty obtaining food than before Cyclone Chido struck.
