Chido in Mayotte. Bulletin of March 6, 2025.

Key Points

  • At the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM), the number of emergency room visits remained stable during week 2025-S09 (February 24 to March 2). Wounds and trauma remained the primary reason for emergency room visits, but their proportion was slightly down. Conversely, the share of visits due to decompensation of chronic diseases tended to increase.

  • Traumas were once again the main reason for visits to the SSFMT (Secouristes sans frontières medical team) in 2025-S09, ahead of skin conditions, whose share was down compared to the previous week. As a reminder, this facility took over from ESCRIM on February 4, 2025. It does not have inpatient beds or an operating room.

  • In 2025-S09, only one reference medical center (CMR) submitted its activity data. Gastrointestinal symptoms and trauma were the main reasons for seeking care.

  • Influenza and bronchiolitis outbreaks were still ongoing in 2025-S09, with the positivity rate rising again for RSV and decreasing slightly for influenza viruses.

  • The rate of stool samples testing positive for at least one enteric pathogen was 73% in 2025-S09, a slight increase compared to the previous week (66% in 2025-S08). The circulation of rotavirus A has stabilized at a low level.

  • From January 1 to March 5, 56 cases of typhoid fever were reported. The majority of cases were residents of the municipality of Mamoudzou.

  • A decline in the percentage of sales of anti-diarrheal medications and oral rehydration solutions (ORS) has been observed in sentinel pharmacies since the peak observed in 2025-S04. However, this proportion remained at a high level compared to previous years.

  • In 2025-S09, more than 75% of households surveyed during community-based surveillance (CBS) outreach visits reported having more difficulty obtaining food than before Cyclone Chido struck.
