Epidemiological Situation

Against a backdrop of inadequate access to safe drinking water and sanitation, typhoid fever remains an endemic disease in Mayotte, with an estimated incidence of 11.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2017 (January–July).In recent years, cases have occurred sporadically or in geographic clusters in several locations across the island. Thus, among the 26 cases diagnosed in 2017 and reported to the CVAGS, 16 resided in the municipality of Koungou, including 8 clustered cases that occurred between weeks 21 and 24. All of these clustered cases are linked by family or neighborhood ties.
