COVID-19 and Other Respiratory Viruses in Réunion. Update as of August 11, 2022.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • After six weeks of rising viral circulation, starting in Week 24, Week 31 marks a significant decrease in the incidence rate, which has dropped to 528 cases per 100,000 people. The effective R has fallen significantly below 1. The positivity rate was rising slightly, while the testing rate was falling sharply.

  • Regarding hospital indicators, new hospitalizations remained stable at an average level, as did admissions to intensive care. Deaths continued to fluctuate at a low level.

Influenza

  • Regarding other respiratory viruses, in Week 31, Réunion entered the pre-post-epidemic phase due to low circulation of influenza viruses in both community and hospital settings. The decline in emergency department visits in Week 31 is also consistent with this pre-post-epidemic phase.

Bronchiolitis

  • At the same time, emergency department visits due to bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age were once again on the rise but remained below the epidemic threshold.
