Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of August 19, 2019.

Key Points

  • More than 49,000 clinically suggestive cases since the beginning of 2019: stabilization of the number of clinically suggestive cases at around 100 per week in S31 (114) and S32 (108);

  • Since the beginning of 2019, more than 17,900 cases have been confirmed: the number of confirmed cases stabilized in weeks 31 and 32 with 50 and 46 confirmed cases, respectively (unconsolidated data);

  • During this period, 18 municipalities (75% of all municipalities) were still reporting cases;

  • St. Pierre, St. Paul, and St. Leu are the most affected municipalities;

  • Overall, over the past four weeks, the weekly number of dengue cases has stabilized across the island;

  • Compared to the winter of 2018, the winter circulation rate remains higher in 2019;

  • The two serotypes, DENV1 and DENV2, are circulating throughout the island.
