Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of July 14, 2019.

Key Points

  • More than 48,300 clinically suggestive cases since the beginning of 2019: stabilization in the number of clinically suggestive cases in S27 (298) and S28 (310);

  • More than 17,600 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of 2019: the number of confirmed cases continues to decline in S27 and S28, with 97 and 84 confirmed cases, respectively (unconsolidated data).

  • Nearly all of the island’s municipalities (20 out of 24) remain affected by viral circulation.

  • St. Pierre remains the largest cluster (19% of cases in S28)

  • The municipalities of St. Joseph, St. Paul, St. Denis, and Petite Île are seeing their proportion of cases rise again.

  • Two serotypes, DENV1 and DENV2, are currently circulating throughout the island.

  • Vigilance remains essential regarding differential diagnoses, particularly for measles, as new cases are regularly being diagnosed.
