Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of July 24, 2018.
Epidemiological Situation
Since the beginning of 2018, 6,261 biologically confirmed or probable cases of dengue (including 5 imported from French Polynesia, Brazil, and Thailand) have been reported by private and hospital laboratories in Réunion. The only serotype identified in 2018 is DENV-2 (911 genotypes identified). This situation follows an unusual, low-level viral circulation during 2017, when persistent transmission was observed during the southern winter.
In week S2018-28 (July 9–15):
87 probable or confirmed cases of dengue (including 2 imported cases) were diagnosed through laboratory testing, based on the date of symptom onset.
Confirmed and probable cases were mainly located in: - In the west: Bois de Nèfles and La Plaine (12 cases), St-Paul, Gare routière, and Etang (9 cases), Le Port (15 cases), La Possession (7 cases), St-Gilles-les-Bains (3 cases), St-Leu (5 cases), St-Gilles-les-Hauts (4 cases), Les Trois-Bassins (4 cases), La Saline (2 cases), Le Guillaume (3 cases),- In the south: Ravine des Cabris (2 cases), St-Pierre (1 case), Etang Salé (2 cases), St-Louis (7 cases), Le Tampon (1 case), Les Avirons (1 case), St-Joseph (2 cases), and St-Philippe (2 cases).- In the north: St-Denis city (2 cases), La Montagne (1 case), Ste-Clotilde (1 case).
