Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of June 19, 2018.
Epidemiological Situation
Since the beginning of 2018, 5,019 biologically confirmed or probable cases of dengue (including 3 imported from the Maldives, Polynesia, and Brazil) have been reported by private and hospital laboratories in Réunion. The only serotype identified in 2018 is DENV-2 (896 genotypes). This situation follows an unusual low-level viral circulation during 2017, when persistent transmission was observed during the southern winter.
In week S2018-23 (June 4–10):
325 probable or confirmed cases of dengue were diagnosed through laboratory testing, based on the date of symptom onset.
Confirmed and probable cases were mainly located: - In the west: Bois de Nèfles and La Plaine (73 cases), St-Paul, Gare routière, and Etang (40 cases), Le Port (39 cases), La Possession (39 cases), St-Gilles-les-Bains (35 cases), St-Leu (23 cases), St-Gilles-les-Hauts (9 cases), La Saline (6 cases), - In the south: Ravine des Cabris (12 cases), St-Pierre (8 cases), Etang Salé (7 cases), St Louis (11 cases), Le Tampon (3 cases), and St Philippe (3 cases).- In the north: La Montagne (5 cases), Ste Clotilde (3 cases), Saint Denis ville (4 cases), and Ste Suzanne (2 cases).- Additionally, 2 confirmed cases reside in St Benoît.
