Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of June 25, 2019.
Key Points
In Week 24, there was a sharp decline in the number of clinically suggestive cases compared to Week 23 (856 and 1,845, respectively); more than 46,000 clinically suggestive cases have been reported since the beginning of 2019.
The number of confirmed cases is declining (Week 23 = 356 and Week 24 = 273, unconsolidated data). Nearly 17,000 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of 2019.
However, nearly all of the island’s municipalities remain affected by viral circulation.
Activity in the historic hotspots in the south continues to decline, except in St. Joseph, Entre-Deux, and Petite-Île (stable). St. Pierre remains the largest hotspot (20% of cases).
The municipalities to monitor are those in the west, north, and east.
There are more areas where the DENV1 serotype is circulating among locally acquired cases (the southern part of the island, St. Denis, and St. Denis).
Vigilance remains essential regarding differential diagnoses (leptospirosis, measles, and Rift Valley fever).
