Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of March 19, 2019.
Epidemiological Situation
The outbreak is accelerating, with more than 500 confirmed cases per week (493 in week 09 and 566 in week 10), including 24 positive rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), bringing the number of reported cases since the start of the year to 2,307 and to 9,183 cases since the start of the outbreak (DENV2 serotype only).
In weeks 09 and 10, 1,526 and 1,246 people, respectively, sought medical care for symptoms clinically suggestive of dengue, bringing the total to over 7,000 since the start of the year and over 33,000 since 2018.
The distribution of cases is widespread, with 22 of the island’s 24 municipalities reporting cases in weeks 09 and 10.
The most active outbreaks in weeks 9 and 10 were located in: - Saint Louis (197 cases) and Rivière Saint Louis (244 cases) - Saint Pierre (101 cases) and Ravine des Cabris (61 cases) - Etang Salé (80 cases) - Les Avirons (56 cases), Piton Saint Leu (49 cases), and Saint Joseph (48 cases)
In addition, a new outbreak has been identified in Petite Ile (33 cases).
