  • From January 1 to August 18, 2022, 100 cases of typhoid fever were reported to the Mayotte Regional Health Agency (ARS) by the CHM laboratory (incidence rate (IR) = 35.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants)

  • 62 cases (62.6%) were hospitalized for at least one night, 9 cases were admitted to the ICU, and no deaths have been recorded to date

  • 74 cases (73.7%) occurred between weeks 17 and 25 of 2022

  • From 2016 to 2021, an average of 39 cases of typhoid fever per year were reported to the ARS Mayotte

  • Typhoid fever is an endemic disease in Mayotte, a department facing particularly precarious conditions with limited access to running water and an inadequate sanitation system
