Epidemiological Situation

The seasonal flu epidemic in Réunion started late this year. Unlike in previous years, no epidemic wave was observed earlier in the year. The proportion of outpatient visits and emergency room visits due to the flu or flu-like syndrome exceeds the peak values observed during the 2010–2016 period.Since the beginning of the year, a high number of severe cases has been reported (24 cases in total). By comparison, there were 67 in 2016 and an average of 17 during the 2010–2015 period.The proportion of positive influenza test results is increasing, with a predominance of type B viruses. Given this epidemic trend and the significant number of severe cases hospitalized in intensive care, it is important to remind the public of measures to prevent the spread of influenza.
