Leprosy Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of January 25, 2016.

Over the past few decades, the World Health Organization’s programs providing free and expanded access to multidrug therapy have led to a significant decline in the global prevalence of leprosy. Nevertheless, despite this progress, the disease remains a public health problem worldwide. In 2013, nearly 216,000 new cases were reported. On the occasion of the 63rd World Leprosy Day, which will take place on January 25, 2016, it is important to remember that this disease is still present in Réunion.
