News: Detection of a cluster of imported malaria cases in Réunion

Data from the OSCOUR® network identified four visits coded as malaria (ICD-10 code: B54) in the emergency department of the University Hospital Center (CHU), North Campus, during the period of August 20–21, 2013. The alert was validated by the receipt of mandatory reports for these imported malaria cases and by the emergency physician’s notification to the emergency and health surveillance platform. As part of the entomological and epidemiological investigation conducted by the vector control department for each case of imported malaria in Réunion, an epidemiological link between the patients was identified. Indeed, the four individuals belonged to the same family returning from a trip to the Comoros.
