News: Continued seasonal surge in ENT infections in Réunion’s emergency departments

Since September 2, 2013, a seasonal surge in visits coded as "ENT infections" has been observed in Réunion’s emergency departments. Data from the sentinel physician network confirmed this trend in private practice. This increase is closely linked to the circulation of rhinoviruses and enteroviruses on the island during this period.Data from emergency departments have helped characterize the affected population: 75% of visits involved children under the age of 5. Acute nasopharyngitis, laryngitis, and pharyngitis were the main causes of these visits.
