Surveillance of Acute Gastroenteritis in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of September 19, 2014.

Epidemiological Situation

Following an initial surge in emergency department visits for gastroenteritis in July, the OSCOUR® hospital emergency department surveillance network has shown a persistent increase in visits for gastroenteritis since the start of the school year in late August. This surge is primarily observed in pediatric hospital emergency departments. During the week of September 8–14, the number of visits for gastroenteritis was comparable to that observed during the major 2012 outbreak. This upward trend is being observed to a moderate extent among sentinel physicians. Furthermore, the rotavirus positivity rate has been rising since July, confirming the circulation of this virus in Réunion.
