Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of April 27, 2017.

Epidemiological Situation

In Réunion, bronchiolitis outbreaks occur every year during the southern summer. The 2016–2017 season was marked by a late outbreak (early February) that was notable for its duration (11 weeks versus 7 weeks in previous seasons). The epidemic peak was reached in week 10 (March 6–13, 2017). Over the past two weeks, emergency department activity for bronchiolitis has generally decreased but remained above the epidemic threshold.In total, since the start of the outbreak, 719 emergency department visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age have been recorded. In this context of the outbreak, it is important to remind the public of appropriate preventive measures.
