Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of March 30, 2017.

Every year, an outbreak of bronchiolitis is observed in emergency departments during the southern hemisphere summer. The 2016–2017 season was marked by a late start to the bronchiolitis outbreak, likely due to unusually low rainfall for this time of year and the start of the school year. After a slight decline in bronchiolitis activity in week 11, the proportion of visits for bronchiolitis rose again last week (+6%).In total, since the start of the outbreak, 489 cases of bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age have been recorded, and 45% of them were hospitalized for this condition. In light of this outbreak, it is important to remind the public of appropriate preventive measures.
