Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of December 23, 2014.

Over the past week in the region:

  • The dynamics of the bronchiolitis outbreak in the western part of the region have changed, with a significant increase in visits to the pediatric emergency department at Nantes University Hospital and SOS Médecins calls for bronchiolitis. Active circulation of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus).

  • In contrast, in the eastern part of the region, the number of visits by infants under one year of age to the pediatric emergency department in Le Mans remained stable (rising from 115 to 116 visits), slightly above the threshold. No significant impact has yet been noted in pediatric emergency departments or in RSV isolates at the Angers University Hospital laboratory.

  • The number of gastroenteritis cases seen by SOS Médecins remains stable compared to last week, still at the alert threshold.

  • Influenza viruses remain relatively rare, but the most common viruses identified in Europe are type A(H3N2), known to affect the elderly more frequently.
