Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of January 28, 2016.

Over the past week in the region:

  • Nationally, an increase in flu activity indicators was observed last week, with the start of a flu outbreak in Brittany. In the region, the threshold for flu-related consultations handled by SOS Médecins has been exceeded, though this will need to be confirmed next week. This increase primarily affects children aged 2 to 15. No increase has been observed in emergency departments. A first case of severe flu has been reported in the region by an intensive care unit.

  • The number of influenza virus isolates by the virology laboratories of the region’s two university hospitals increased last week. Nationally, type B viruses are predominant in community practice.

  • SOS Médecins has observed an increase in cases of gastroenteritis, though the number remains below the epidemic threshold. The number of clusters of gastroenteritis cases in nursing homes has also been rising since early January. Nationally, the new norovirus genotype (GII.17) is becoming dominant over the older GII.4 virus.

  • Moderate persistence of bronchiolitis cases.
