Health Monitoring During the Heat Wave in the Pays de Loire Region. Update as of June 21, 2022.

Key Points

  • Between June 15 and 19, 2022, Météo-France placed the region’s five departments under at least an orange heat wave alert (for four of them: Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, Sarthe) and a red alert for the Vendée.

  • Total healthcare utilization: moderate increase during the episode in SOS Médecins calls for all causes (age 75 and older), emergency room visits for all causes (age 75 and older), and hospitalizations following emergency room visits for all causes (age 75 and older). However, the observed values remained within normal fluctuations.

  • Healthcare utilization for the iCanicule1 composite indicator: a moderate increase during the episode in the proportion of emergency department visits for iCanicule among coded visits (age 75 and older and all ages), the proportion of hospitalizations following visits for iCanicule among coded hospitalizations (age 75 or older and all ages), or among visits for iCanicule (age 75 or older), and the proportion of SOS Médecins procedures for iCanicule among coded procedures (all ages).
