OSCOUR® Network Emergency Department Visit Data
Following the decline observed during the summer months, the start of the school year appears to be correlated with an increase in certain syndrome groups among younger individuals, reaching levels in November 2021 that were higher than those observed during the three preceding years at this time: mental health disorders among 15- to 17-year-olds, suicidal acts and suicidal ideation among 11- to 17-year-olds, and mood disorders among 0- to 17-year-olds.
Among those aged 11 and older: a gradual increase in the monthly number of emergency room visits for suicide attempts since August 2021, peaking at 400 visits in November 2021—higher than levels observed in the three years preceding this period.
Among those aged 18 and older: the monthly number of emergency room visits for mental health issues varies by age group, with a marked increase observed among 18- to 24-year-olds, reaching a peak of over 600 visits in November 2021 (significantly higher than levels observed in previous years during this period) and a decline recorded over the past two months among 25- to 64-year-olds and those aged 65 and older.
