Vaccination in the Pays de la Loire region. Overview of vaccination coverage in 2023.

Key Points

IN INFANTS

  • In 2023, vaccination coverage among infants stood at 91–93% for eight mandatory vaccines: diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, hepatitis B, pneumococcal, and meningococcal C. Coverage remained below 90% for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), falling short of the 95% target.

    • The MMR catch-up vaccination campaign targets the entire population born since 1980 (2 doses), particularly in light of the current resurgence of measles in certain regions

  • Regarding vaccinations introduced into the immunization schedule in 2022, coverage rates were 75% for meningococcal B and 22% for rotavirus at 8 months of age.

  • Vaccination against pertussis for mothers—to protect highly vulnerable newborns—was 82% in 2021, which is 15 percentage points higher than the average for mainland France.

AMONG ADOLESCENTS

  • Vaccination coverage against meningococcal C among adolescents and young adults remained insufficient in 2023 to ensure herd immunity in the population (for 15- to 19-year-olds: 51%).

    • The meningococcal C catch-up vaccination campaign targets all individuals under 25 years of age (1 dose)

  • In 2023, 67% of 15-year-old girls and 36% of 15-year-old boys began their human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination series, representing increases of 7 and 18 percentage points, respectively, compared to 2022. The 10-year cancer control strategy aims for 80% coverage by 2030.

  • At the end of the first phase of the vaccination campaign conducted in 7th-grade classes in late 2023, it is estimated that 53% of 12-year-old girls and 40% of 12-year-old boys had received at least one dose of the vaccine (either at the doctor’s office or at school): an increase of 11–12 percentage points in 3 months

AMONG PEOPLE AT RISK OF SEVERE INFLUENZA AND COVID-19

  • Flu vaccination coverage at the end of the last winter campaign was 51% among at-risk individuals, a decrease of 6 percentage points compared to the previous winter. Coverage against COVID-19 was 37%, which was also largely insufficient.
