Epidemiological surveillance in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Update as of August 25, 2021.

Key Points

COVID-19

In week 33, regional viral circulation remains at a plateau with a downward trend. Positivity and incidence rates are declining sharply among those aged 15–30 and stabilizing among those under 15, though they remain at high levels. Variants carrying the L452R mutation account for the vast majority of cases. The number of patients admitted to general wards continues to rise. An increase in patient numbers is also observed in critical care units. The impact of the fourth wave on long-term care facilities persists. Although there was a decrease in the number of outbreaks and clusters in Week 33, the number of residents affected is higher than in Week 32.

Chikungunya, dengue, Zika

Since surveillance began on May 1, 16 confirmed or probable cases of dengue, mainly imported from Réunion, as well as one case of chikungunya imported from Gabon, have been reported. A first indigenous case of dengue has been identified in the Var.

Extreme heat, heat wave

  • Emergency departments - Activity in emergency departments for conditions potentially related to heat has changed little compared to the previous week.

  • SOS Médecins - The proportion of consultations at SOS Médecins clinics for diagnoses of “heatstroke and dehydration” has decreased compared to the previous week.
