Epidemiological surveillance in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Update as of September 1, 2021.

Key Points

COVID-19

In Week 34 (W34), regional viral circulation is decreasing, although levels remain high. Positivity rates are declining among those aged 15 and older, but are still rising among children under 10. Incidence rates, however, are decreasing across all age groups. Variants carrying the L452R mutation account for the vast majority of cases. The number of patients admitted to general wards is stabilizing. This is also the case for the number of patients in intensive care, except in the Var and Bouches-du-Rhône departments, where pressure remains high. The impact of the fourth wave on long-term care facilities persists. Although the number of outbreaks and clusters decreased in W34, the number of affected residents and deaths remains high.

Extreme heat, heat wave

No heat wave is forecast in the coming days that would warrant a heat wave alert.

Chikungunya, dengue, Zika

Since surveillance began on May 1, 16 confirmed or probable cases of dengue, imported mainly from Réunion, as well as one case of chikungunya imported from Gabon, have been reported.
