Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika

  • Since the last bulletin, two new outbreaks of local transmission of chikungunya have been identified, one in La Ciotat (1 case) and the other in Nice (1 case).

  • The epidemiological situation continues to evolve rapidly in the municipality of Antibes. The number of cases now stands at 71 (+33 cases since the previous update). There are several areas of circulation, including one in the municipality of La Gaude. The two other most significant outbreaks are in Fréjus (51 cases, +4 cases) and Vitrolles (46 cases, +5 cases).

  • As of September 8, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region, which is the most affected, has recorded 16 outbreaks of local transmission, including 12 of chikungunya (194 cases, +47) and 4 of dengue (10 cases, +1).

West Nile Virus Infections

  • Since the last bulletin, 3 new cases of West Nile virus (WNV) infection have been reported in Bouches-du-Rhône (+2 cases) and Var (+1 case). As of September 8, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region had recorded 17 cases of WNV infection.

High temperatures, heat wave

  • No heatwave is currently underway or expected in the coming days in the Paca region.

  • Emergency services activity remains relatively stable, while activity at SOS Médecins is very low.

Asthma at the start of the school year

  • Monitoring of asthma-related visits among children via analysis of OSCOUR® and SOS Médecins indicators has been available since Week 34.

  • In Week 36, the week of the school year’s start, asthma-related activity among children under 15 increased in emergency departments, both for visits and for hospitalizations following a visit. This increase has not yet been observed at SOS Médecins.

  • In both networks, the observed level remains lower than that of the previous two years.
