  • Since January 1, 2019, 1,453 cases of measles have been reported (compared to 2,399 cases during the same period in 2018), including 439 (30%) hospitalizations (19 in intensive care), 107 cases (7%) complicated by pneumonia, 2 cases of encephalitis, including 1 death (subacute encephalitis in an immunocompromised patient).

  • The circulation of the measles virus has intensified, with 115 cases (on average) during weeks S18 to S21, compared to 75 cases (on average) during the previous 8 weeks.

  • 86% of cases occurred in unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated individuals (out of a total of 1,011 cases, aged over one year and born since 1980, for whom vaccination status was known).

  • The persistence of nosocomial cluster outbreaks underscores the importance of keeping healthcare workers’ vaccination statuses up to date.
