Summary

In Week 14 (March 30–April 5, 2020), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following visits decreased among children under 2 years of age (–14% and –18%, respectively) and adults aged 15–74 (–8% and –7%, respectively). Among those aged 2–14 and those aged 75 and older, visits and hospitalizations following visits remained stable.
Over the past week, 27,027 visits across all age groups for suspected COVID-19 were recorded, representing 17% of total activity. Compared to the first week, these visits decreased by 17%, or 5,619 visits. The declines are steeper among younger age groups, ranging from a 40% decrease among those under 2 years old to a 10% decrease among those 65 years and older. Nearly 43% of these visits were followed by hospitalization (11,614 hospitalizations), representing a 9% decrease (1,185 fewer hospitalizations) compared to the previous week. Of these hospitalizations, 387 were in intensive care units (3%). Regionally, the majority of visits were observed in Île-de-France (35%), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (11%), and Grand Est (11%). Since the start of surveillance, 84,890 visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Among other conditions presenting in the COVID-19 clinic, there was a decrease across all age groups in visits for cough (-43%), isolated fever (-32%), pneumonia (-25%), and dyspnea and respiratory failure (-10%).
It is also worth noting an increase in visits across all age groups for trauma (+11%, or +2,926 visits).
