In Week 33 (August 15–21, 2022), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.

Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups are down for the fifth consecutive week (2,547 vs. 3,293 visits, a decrease of 23% in Week 33 vs. 23% in Week 32). This decline is observed across all age groups. The share of activity across all age groups is down (0.8% vs. 1% in Week 32), as is the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit (36% vs. 38% in Week 32). At the regional level, emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 are down in all regions except Réunion, where there was a slight increase (+10%, or +12 visits).

Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 862,407 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.

• Most other indicators are stable or declining. Notable trends include:

  • Among adults, a slight increase in visits for chest pain (+10%, or +871 visits) and among those aged 15–74, visits for asthma (+14%, or +96 visits).

  • Among 2- to 14-year-olds, there was an increase in visits for allergies (+8%, or +50 visits) and skin infections (+10%, or +81 visits).
