Key Points

  • In Week 48 (November 27–December 3, 2023), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits remained stable across all age groups compared to the previous week.

  • Among those under 15, seasonal respiratory indicators are on the rise compared to the previous week. At levels far higher than in previous years, pneumonia cases continue to rise (+25%). Suspected COVID-19 infections (+19%) and influenza/flu-like illness (+15%) are increasing at levels comparable to previous years.

  • Bronchiolitis among children under one year of age is rising moderately (+6%).

  • Among adults, compared to the previous week, pneumonia cases (+16%) continue to rise, exceeding levels seen in previous years. Suspected COVID-19 infections (+24%), influenza/flu-like illness (+43%), and acute bronchitis (+15%) are also on the rise.

  • Among those over 75, there has been an increase in visits for vomiting (+11%), isolated fever (+8%), and asthma (+21%).

  • Suicidal attempts among those under 15 are down (-10%) but remain at levels higher than in previous years.
