Key Points

  • In Week 22 (May 26–June 1, 2025), the number of emergency department visits increased among children under 2 years of age compared with the previous week (+8%, or +1,454 visits), decreased among children aged 2–14 years (-6%, or -4,176 visits), and remained stable among adults. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.

  • Among respiratory conditions, there was an increase in emergency department visits for ENT conditions across all age groups (+12%, or +1,202 visits), suspected COVID-19 among children under 2 years old (+39%, or 27 visits) and adults (+13%, or 53 visits), and pneumonia among those aged 75 and older (+9%, or 197 visits).

  • Furthermore, in connection with weather conditions, there has been an increase in visits:

    • across all age groups: for insect bites (+87%, or +419 visits), hyperthermia/heatstroke in small numbers of cases (+126 visits), and allergies (+12%, or +302 visits);

    • among adults: for dehydration (+23%, or +53 visits), urinary tract infections (+6%, or +300 visits); and among those aged 15–74 for asthma attacks (+19%, or +259 visits) and skin/subcutaneous infections (+9%, or +415 visits).

  • Among other indicators, the following increases in visits are noted:

    • among children: for chickenpox (+61%, or +125 visits), scarlet fever among 2- to 14-year-olds (+33%, or +28 visits), isolated fever (+11%, or +143 visits), and conjunctivitis (+15%, or +71 visits);

    • in adults: for gastroenteritis (+6%, or +80 visits) and isolated fever in those aged 75 and older (+10%, or +33 visits).
