Key Points

  • In Week 41 (October 7–13, 2024), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups, except for hospitalizations following visits among children under 2 years of age, which continued to rise slightly (+5%, or +138 hospitalizations).

  • Once again this week, the main seasonal respiratory indicators remain stable or are declining across all age groups, with the exception of children under 2 years of age, among whom there is an increase in visits for bronchiolitis (+14%, or +134 visits, though at levels well below those of the previous three years), asthma attacks (+12%, or 74 more visits), and coughs (+7%, or 38 more visits).

  • There has also been an increase in visits for acute bronchitis among children (+7%, or +21 visits) and for pneumonia among 2- to 14-year-olds (+12%, or +47 visits) and among 15- to 74-year-olds (+5%, or +123 visits).

  • Also noteworthy is the increase in visits related to digestive conditions: gastroenteritis across all age groups (+7%, or +260 visits), vomiting in children under 2 years old (+10%, or +41 visits) and in those aged 15–74 (+11%, or +106 visits), and abdominal pain in children aged 2–14 (+8%, or +217 visits).

  • There was also an increase in visits for urinary tract infections among children under 2 years old (+10%, or +30 visits).

  • Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits for isolated fever among 2- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 74-year-olds (12% and 8%, respectively), among children for headache/migraine/epilepsy (+14% among 2- to 14-year-olds) and conjunctivitis (+19% among children under 2); among adults for suicide attempts (+13% among 15- to 64-year-olds) and chest pain (+7% among 15- to 74-year-olds).
