Summary

In week 43 (October 21–27), total emergency department activity and hospitalizations following a visit increased among children under 2 years of age (+6.6%, or +1,551 visits, and +6.9%, or +216 hospitalizations), decreased sharply among children aged 2–14 years (-24% and -12.5%, respectively), and remained stable among adults.

Over the past week, the main increases in visits were for respiratory conditions
:- among children under 2 years of age: bronchiolitis (+27.3%, or +311 visits), asthma attacks (+9.7%, or +40 visits), acute bronchitis (+47%, or +55 visits), pneumonia (+8.6%, or +12 visits), ENT conditions (+7%, or +374 visits),
- among adults: influenza/flu-like illness (+32%, or +69 visits).
The share of these conditions in total activity remains comparable to that observed in the previous two years.

There was also an increase in visits for conjunctivitis across all age groups (+8.1%, or +81 visits), urinary tract infections in adults (+7%, or +316 visits), and general malaise in adults over 75 years of age (+7%, or +389 visits).
