SOS Médecins National Newsletter, December 2, 2019
In week 48 (November 25–December 1), overall activity continued to rise among children. It increased by 8% among children under 2 years of age and by 5.6% among those aged 2–14, representing an increase of 1,860 visits. Among adults, overall activity remained stable.
Over the past week, we note an increase in respiratory conditions among children at levels comparable to
those observed in previous years:- bronchiolitis (+29%, or +152 cases) among children under 2 years of age. In addition to the 8 regions already declared to be in an epidemic phase (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Brittany, Hauts-de-France, Île-de-France, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Guadeloupe, Martinique), 4 new regions were added this week (Grand-Est, Normandy, Occitanie, Pays-de-la-Loire). Bourgogne-Franche-Comté has entered the pre-epidemic phase:
influenza/flu-like illness (+40%, or +112 cases), pneumonia (+20%, +53 cases), bronchitis (+15%, or +286 cases), and asthma (+47%, or +49 cases).
Most of the 10 most common conditions are on the rise among children under 2 years of age.
Among adults, notable increases include gastroenteritis (+7%, or 258 cases) among those aged 15–74 and bronchitis (+11%, or 49 cases) among those aged 75 and older.
