Key Points

  • In Week 02 (January 6–12, 2025), activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased compared to the previous week among children aged 2–14 (+14%, or 2,722 visits) and, to a lesser extent, among adults aged 15–74 (+3%, or 1,934 visits), while it decreased among children under 2 years old (-13.5%, or -832 cases) and people over 75 years old (-18%, or -1,535 cases).

  • For this week marking the start of the school year, there has been a marked increase in cases of influenza/influenza-like illness among children, particularly those aged 2–14 (+41%, or +1,727 cases), and among 2–14-year-olds for viral syndrome (+40%, or +145 cases) and isolated fever (+40%, or +126 cases). Visits for influenza/influenza-like illness are also rising moderately among those aged 15–74 (+7.5%, or +1,097 visits), but are decreasing among those aged 75 and older.

  • Procedures for other respiratory conditions (pneumonia, asthma attacks, upper respiratory tract disorders, and acute bronchitis) are decreasing across all age groups. Among children under 2 years of age, the decline in the number of procedures for bronchiolitis continues (-35%, or -130 procedures).

  • Among other indicators, the increase in procedures continues:

    • for digestive disorders in children and adults aged 15–74: gastroenteritis (+38%, or +1,738 procedures), vomiting (+26%, or +125 procedures), acute abdominal pain in those aged 2–74 (+35%, or +409 procedures),

    • for trauma in children (+90%, or +215 visits) and adults aged 15–74 (+27%, or +364 visits), and for low back pain/sciatica in those aged 15–74 (+11%, or +239 visits),

    • among adults, for anxiety (+51%, or +293 visits) and depression (+28%, or +48 visits among those aged 15–64). Among children, an increase in visits for anxiety was also observed during this back-to-school week, albeit in small numbers (+80%, or +18 visits).
