Men's Health, No. 338: Quitting Smoking: Methods That Work.
This report was prepared as part of the program to encourage smoking cessation carried out by the CFES at the request of the CNAMTS. The slogan was "A smoke-free life—when will you start?" The campaign aimed to make it easier for smokers to access information, notably through the launch of a toll-free hotline: Tabac Info Service. The report provides an overview of the smoking situation in France, changes in smoking behaviors, and motivations for quitting. The National Agency for Accreditation and Evaluation in Health (ANAES) also dedicated a consensus conference to this aspect of the problem this year. The various smoking cessation methods take into account recent findings on nicotine-induced dependence and a precise assessment of smokers’ level of dependence. Training for general practitioners in the care of smoking patients is encouraged, and training materials have been developed for this purpose.
