Addictions: Prevention and Substance Use Behaviors

Alcohol is the first psychoactive substance that adolescents experiment with, before tobacco; experimentation with cannabis occurs later. Effective prevention strategies for young people have been scientifically established. The best-documented strategies are interventions that develop psychosocial skills: cognitive, social, and emotional. These help individuals cope with challenging situations and make choices that promote their physical, mental, and social well-being.
