Lagnieu Middle School: A Comprehensive Approach to Caring for and Listening to Students [Interview].

At Lagnieu Middle School, eighth-grade students welcome incoming seventh-graders. “Minor” conflicts are resolved through peer mediation, for which certain students and staff members are trained. A comprehensive approach centered on kindness and listening to students has been implemented, which also extends to how students are assessed: teachers no longer give zeroes. A series of measures has helped improve the school climate and, in particular, reduce the number of expulsions from the school and class suspensions.
