Prostate Cancer in the French West Indies: An Overview.

In the French West Indies, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer, accounting for more than 50% of new cases among men. Its incidence and mortality rates are higher there than in metropolitan France, consistent with the African origins of the majority of the population. This increased risk, compounded by significant environmental pollution from chlordecone—a carcinogen and endocrine disruptor—raises concerns and questions that warrant responses tailored to the specific characteristics of the population.
