Risks to Put into Perspective for Children's Cognitive Development

Studies focusing on screen use among children in the Elfe cohort provide an accurate picture of the amount of time children aged 0–6 spend on screens: nearly 1 hour per day at age 2 and more than 1 hour and 30 minutes at age 5. However, these studies qualify the extent of the negative effects on their cognitive development, where social and cultural inequalities play a major role. While excessive exposure—whether passive or to age-inappropriate programming—can certainly affect language development, benefits can be observed when accompanied by parental guidance. The risk to an entire generation, however, calls for measured and proportionate collective preventive measures.
