General Methodology of the 2011–2012 ABENA Study

The 2011–2012 Abena Study (Diet and Nutritional Status of Food Aid Recipients) focused on adults aged 18 and older who received food aid during the winter of 2011–2012 in six urban areas of metropolitan France: Paris, Marseille, Greater Dijon, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, and Hauts-de-Seine. This was a cross-sectional study, with participants recruited between November 2011 and mid-April 2012. Participants were selected at random using a two-stage stratified sampling design. First, food aid distribution centers were selected at random, with each assigned a probability of inclusion proportional to its distribution capacity. Then, users were randomly selected from within each selected center.[article excerpt]
