Ongoing Survey on Accidents in Daily Life (EPAC)

The EPAC survey aims to provide detailed, reliable, and up-to-date descriptive data on the number and characteristics of everyday accidents (AcVC) occurring in France that result in the need for emergency hospital care. The survey was initially established in 1986 and constitutes the French component of the European Ehlass surveillance network, which has been extended—under various survey methodologies—to all fifteen countries of the European Union.

Using the EPAC database, which centralizes data collected from the emergency departments of metropolitan hospitals in the network (10 hospitals in 2012), this application provides tables that cross-tabulate the gender and age of accident victims with the type of accident. Filters can be applied to the following variables: location, activity, injury, affected body part, and care provided to the victim.

When interpreting the figures, it is important to note that only a limited number of hospitals participate in the data collection: about ten out of 650 emergency departments. These figures are good indicators of accidents in daily life but cannot be considered representative of metropolitan France.

Given the numerous variables and filtering options, we have chosen to provide two tables: one showing the number of injured individuals in the selected group, and the other showing the total number of injured individuals in the database. This streamlined presentation thus allows users to calculate the percentages they wish.

In addition to these item-based selections, it is also possible to filter by products (that caused accidents or were involved in accidents) or specific accident scenarios.
