By decree of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, dated October 19, 2026, Dr. Étienne Pot has been appointed Director General of the National Public Health Agency, Santé publique France. This appointment follows hearings before the Social Affairs Committees of the National Assembly and the Senate. He had previously served as Acting Director General since August 17.
Un parcours au service de la santé publique
Médecin de santé publique, médecin addictologue, Étienne Pot dispose d’une expertise croisée entre prévention et promotion de la santé, addictologie et handicap.
A Career Dedicated to Public Health
As a public health physician and addiction specialist, Étienne Pot brings expertise spanning prevention and health promotion, addiction medicine, and disability.
"The National Public Health Agency—Santé publique France—monitors the population’s health on a daily basis while carrying out essential prevention and health promotion campaigns. Infectious diseases, cancer, mental health, environmental exposures, occupational health, climate change…: the issues are numerous and all interconnected.
I hope the agency will be better able to explain and present these issues, much like its Odissé portal, where anyone can access the data through an open-data approach.
It is also by expanding our health surveillance systems and focusing on the most vulnerable among us that we will help improve the health of everyone: the elderly, people with disabilities, and those in socially vulnerable situations. We will need to go further on these issues."
Since November 2023, he has served as Interministerial Delegate for the National Strategy on Neurodevelopmental Disorders (autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, TDI), where he has led its implementation by drawing on the expertise of individuals, professionals, and scientists.
Étienne Pot began his career as an addiction specialist at the CSAPA at Lariboisière-Fernand Widal Hospital (2015–2016), then at the Montevideo Clinic (2017–2019), where he chaired the Medical Review Board (CME). At the same time, he provided care for individuals with autism or intellectual developmental disabilities as a physician at the Fondation Les amis de l’atelier (2016–2018).
From 2019 to 2023, he served as a physician and then as medical director at the John Bost Foundation, which manages 40 facilities dedicated to neurodevelopmental disorders, mental disabilities, and multiple disabilities.
He also served as a scientific advisor to the High Council for the Future of Health Insurance (HCAAM) at France Stratégie on issues of prevention and health promotion (2016–2023) and served as an expert for the High Authority for Health (HAS) on its Social and Medico-Social Commission (2018–2023).
In 2019, he founded Epcare, a company specializing in auditing and best practices for the health and medical-social sector.
