Health Surveillance in Brittany. Bulletin of September 25, 2026.

Key Points

Asthma

  • As expected, activity has remained high in S38 since the week school started, both in emergency rooms and at SOS Médecins, particularly among children under 15.

Lower Respiratory Tract Infections (LRTI)

  • Activity is low, with sporadic detection of SARS-CoV-2 (showing a slight increase) and influenza A, in both Brest and Rennes.

Extreme Heat, Heat Wave

  • The seasonal monitoring period has been extended through September 30, 2026. Brittany has been on green alert since the last heatwave in August, and we are seeing a return to seasonal norms in the number of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations related to heat-related conditions, which, as a reminder, include hyperthermia, dehydration, and, in the case of emergency room visits, hyponatremia.

Allergies

  • Allergy-related activity has remained relatively stable, falling within the usual seasonal fluctuations, both in emergency rooms and at SOS Médecins, since the beginning of summer. Data from SOS Brest confirms the trends previously observed in S38.

Gastroenteritis

  • Activity levels in Brittany are considered low, with stable numbers of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations across all age groups.

ENT Conditions

  • Activity was relatively low during the summer. However, an overall increase in activity related to ENT conditions was noted in week 38, both in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins, in connection with the start of the school year.
