  • Between June 18 and 27, 2026, amid a heat wave, the six departments of the Centre-Val de Loire region were successively placed under an orange and then a red heat wave alert by Météo-France. The region was no longer under a heat wave alert as of June 28, 2026.
  • An analysis of emergency care utilization reveals an increase in heat-related conditions (iCanicule composite indicator) during the heat wave, with a peak observed on June 26 in hospital emergency departments. This increase affected the entire population and, more specifically, people aged 75 and older.
  • An increase in the number of medical interventions carried out by SOS Médecins for heat-related conditions was also observed during the heatwave.
  • Mortality data for all causes certified electronically show an increase in the number of deaths beginning on June 24, 2026, primarily among people aged 65 and older, particularly in healthcare facilities, but also at home and in nursing homes. These results are preliminary and will be finalized in the coming days.
