Heat Waves and Health in Hauts-de-France. Bulletin dated July 22, 2026.
Key Points
- On July 11, the entire region was placed under an orange heat wave alert by Météo France, lasting three days for Nord, Pas-de-Calais, and Somme, and seven days for Aisne and Oise. As of July 17, no departments remained under an orange heat wave alert, thus bringing the episode to an end.
- A regional analysis of healthcare utilization (emergency room visits and SOS Médecins calls) shows a moderate increase in the composite health indicator iCanicule starting on July 8 (yellow alert), which stabilized throughout the heatwave, before declining starting on July 17, coinciding with the lowering of alert levels. Heat-related activity was slightly higher in the departments of Aisne and Oise, where the heat wave lasted longer.
