Heat Wave and Health in Corsica. Bulletin dated July 3, 2026.

Key Points

  • Météo France placed the island’s two departments under a yellow heat wave alert on June 21, then upgraded it to orange starting June 22, 2026. This alert remains in effect as of today and will continue at least until July 1.
  • At the regional level, an analysis of emergency care visits using the iCanicule composite health indicator shows:
    • an increase in emergency department visits several days before the start of the orange heat wave alert, both across all age groups and among those aged 75 and older. This activity has remained stable and sustained since the start of the heat wave;
    • an increase in the number of heat-related hospitalizations following a visit to the emergency room over the same time period, which has also remained stable since the start of the heatwave;
    • very low activity at the SOS Médecins association in Ajaccio.
