Key Points

Extreme Heat, Heat Wave 

• The second heatwave of the summer for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region began on July 5, when Météo France issued an orange heatwave alert for the Vaucluse department, followed by the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department on July 7.
• The heatwave ended for all departments on July 22, including the Bouches-du-Rhône and Var departments, which remained under an orange heatwave alert until July 21 and 22, respectively.
• Changes in heat-related indicators during heat waves are covered in a weekly bulletin dedicated to heat waves. This bulletin will be available in the “Publications” tab of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Corsica section of the Santé publique France website as soon as it is published.

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika

• Since the start of enhanced surveillance (May 1), 41 imported cases have been identified in the region: 13 cases of chikungunya (+1 case of chikungunya compared to the previous week) and 28 cases of dengue (+2).
• While no locally acquired cases have been detected in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, two locally acquired cases of dengue have been confirmed in Occitanie (Hérault and Tarn).

West Nile Virus Infections

• Since the start of surveillance (May 1), no locally acquired human cases have been
  detected in the region. Only one equine case was diagnosed in the Bouches-du-Rhône
  . The only human case was recorded in Occitanie, in the Pyrénées-Orientales
  .
