COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of May 14, 2020
Summary: A stable trend
A total of 187 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Martinique between March 5 and May 10, including 30 in the last 4 weeks (S16 to S19*). For these last 30 confirmed cases, transmissions linked to active outbreak areas outside the territory were the most frequent (47%), followed by local transmissions (30%) and secondary transmissions (23%).
The number of visits for suspected COVID-19 conducted by SOS Médecins decreased in week S19* (6 compared to 11 in S18*). In primary care, the rate of consultations for acute respiratory infection (ARI) was 4 per 10,000 inhabitants from May 3 to 10 (S19), representing an estimated 149 cases of ARI. The proportion attributable to COVID-19 is estimated at 394 (estimated cumulative number between March 23 and May 3).
In hospitals, the number of hospitalizations reported via SI-VIC remains stable compared to the previous week (Week 18*). As of May 13, of the 112 hospitalizations recorded, 79 (71%) people had been discharged, 19 were still hospitalized (17%), and 14 deaths were reported (including 7 in intensive care). A total of 38 severe cases (confirmed/probable) have been reported by the adult intensive care unit at Martinique University Hospital since the start of the epidemic.
In week S19*, the positivity rate was 0.5% in hospitals and 1% in private medical testing laboratories.
Finally, no significant excess mortality from all causes across all age groups has been detected in Martinique.
