  • 37% of deaths certified electronically in Brittany (49% in France) in 2024, ranging from 31% in Morbihan to 44% in Côtes d’Armor

  • Electronic certification is more widely implemented in public and private healthcare facilities (60% and 69%, respectively) than in nursing homes (19%), but remains well below the rates observed in Normandy (80% and 80%, respectively, vs. 41% in nursing homes)

  • Electronic death certification remains very rarely used at home (6%) and on public roads (10%) and could be facilitated by connecting municipalities to the HuBEE portal

Electronic certification data can be used for surveillance:

  • to measure the impact of epidemics such as COVID-19 or the flu

  • to identify unusual trends in certain causes of death
